Jury selection began Tuesday morning, January 24, in the fourth Vioxx® trial against New Jersery pharmaceutical company Merck. The selection process began in Rio Grande City, Texas, considered to be one of the most plaintiff-friendly regions in the country by legal experts.
The trial will determine if Merck’s Vioxx® drug is responsible for the death of 71-year old Leonel Garza, who died of a fatal heart attack in 2001. Mr. Garza had been taking Vioxx® regularly for three weeks prior to his death.
Jury selection is expected to complete before the end of the week and the trial is expected to take approximately 2 months before a verdict is agreed upon.
