Reglan® (Metoclopramide) prescribed to treat gastrointestinal disorders has been linked to tardive dyskinesia. The symptoms of tardive dyskinesia include involuntary and repetitive movements of extremities, or lip smacking, grimacing, tongue protrusion, rapid eye movements or blinking, puckering and pursing of the lips, or impaired movement of the fingers. On Feb. 26, 2009 the FDA added a “black box” warning to the label of drugs containing Metoclopramide, such as Reglan®. A black box warning is the strongest warning of risk that a prescription drug can receive.
