Now Accepting Zimmer Hip Replacement with Durom Cup Cases

The Zimmer Durom Cup was introduced in 2006 to patients with an ailing hip as an advanced artificial hip replacement system. It is designed from a single piece of material to reduce susceptibility to traditional hip replacement problems including wear to the bearings and a limited range of motion.

In April 2008, information surfaced that doctors who had previously installed a Zimmer Durom Cup in patients had to perform a corrective surgery due to loosening of the Zimmer Durom Cup components. Zimmer Holdings, Inc., manufacturers of the Zimmer Durom Cup, dismissed the allegations and placed fault on the surgeons. But by July 2008, Zimmer suspended all future sales of Zimmer Durom Cup hip replacement system in order to formulate new training and instructions for surgeons and new warning labels.

It is estimated that approximately 12,000 patients have had a Zimmer Durom Cup installed between 2006 and 2008. Each of these patients is at risk for developing chronic pain, permanent injury or even death if the Zimmer Durom Cup loosens. Some surgeons have suggested that the probability of loosening may increase with the passage of time after the surgery.

In January 2009, Zimmer indicated in their fourth-quarter earnings report that a minimum of $69 million has been set aside to handle potential Zimmer Durom Cup trials and settlements to victims.

If you or a loved one is suffering from a defective Zimmer Durom Cup, you may be entitled to compensation.
